10 years of “Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel”

2nd ranking in our category, a great pride: Cru Bourgeois exceptional until 2030! In 2020, we were classified for the first time Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel for 5 years, and 5 years later: here we are again!

Les Crus Bourgeois is a classification based on a blind tasting of 5 vintages by an external committee identifying more than 170 properties of the Médoc according to three levels: cru bourgeois, cru bourgeois superior, cru bourgeois exceptional. Only 14 properties are ranked at the highest level of the category: exceptional including the Château du Taillan.

History since 1932

As soon as the classification was released, in 1932, Mr Jean Cruse presented the Château du Taillan and we never left it. In 2003, we were elected Cru Bourgeois Supérieur and in 2020, the Château reached the highest rank of its category: that of exceptional. The Crus Bourgeois have the particularity to question themselves every 5 years in order to guarantee a consistency in the quality of their wines but also, in order to challenge themselves and evolve. This philosophy corresponds 100% to Armelle Cruse, manager of the Château du Taillan!

Why Bourgeois?

Make no mistake! The word bourgeois historically means “the inhabitants of a village”, of the village: the peasants. So these are the people of the land and soil we’re talking about. Yes, it can be surprising and it is in order to dispute this idea of this bourgeois word that the ranking team and its members have disguised themselves as Duke and Duchess on the occasion of the release of the ranking! A memorable moment.
